Handover is when a new heat pump becomes a system you can operate confidently. You do not need to become a service engineer, but you should understand normal operation and which settings should not be changed casually.
Ask for a live demonstration
Have the installer show heating mode, domestic hot water, holiday mode, alarm history and safe shutdown. If there is an app, connect it to your own account before the team leaves—not a temporary installer phone. Record who provides remote support and what information they can see.
Understand the heating curve
Many hydronic heat pumps use weather compensation: the target water temperature changes with outdoor temperature. Energy Saving Trust explains this uses an outdoor sensor. Ask which curve is active, which rooms were used to tune it, and who should adjust it if comfort is not right. A high fixed flow temperature is not a cure for every problem.
Keep schedules practical
Review heating schedules, room thermostats, zoning and hot-water times against household routines. Large setbacks can require a long recovery period, depending on the building and emitters. Agree a first-month plan: what to observe, when to call, and which readings or screenshots will help diagnose an issue.
Make backup heat visible
Ask how to see whether electric backup is operating, which conditions allow it, and when an alert appears. The heat-pump thermostat guidance notes that control settings must match the equipment and any secondary heat. Do not change installer-level parameters without written advice.
Leave with a complete record
Keep the quick-start guide, manual, commissioning record, serial numbers, warranty, app credentials and service contact together. European Commission consumer guidance stresses clear, understandable conditions; that clarity matters after installation too. Arrange a clear handover plan with Thermovo.
Before requesting a project quotation
| Check | Information to prepare |
|---|---|
| Project scope | State the country, project type, operating conditions and required delivery date. Identify which decisions still need an installer or designer. |
| Topic-specific evidence | recorded control settings, access ownership and handover training |
| Responsibility and acceptance | Record who supplies, installs, commissions and services the equipment. Ask which documents and checks are included, and confirm exclusions in writing. |
This checklist helps define a request; it is not a model performance claim, installation design or promise of availability.
